Coming onto Diablo 3 after not having done any hand painted texture art professionally for almost 9 years was intimidating to say the least. That said I was able to pick things up and actually discover some new ways of approaching this. I ended up sculpting many of the pieces in Zbrush, baking ao and mat caps and then using gradient maps to get the textures close to 80% there before adding the final touches in Photoshop. That turned out to be a rather efficient pipeline and I was able to get a lot done in a short amount of time. Here are some examples of the work I did on Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls.
